“As pastor, I personally invite you to come experience Summerfield. Be a part of this special community. We want you with us today on this spiritual journey.”
Reverend Jennifer Emert has been in ministry for most of her life, encouraged while still in high school to pursue her call. She worked in a psychiatric hospital for six years while she was in school.
After finishing her Bachelor’s Degree, she worked as a missionary in Saskatchewan through the Mennonite Central Committee. She ran a crisis line and working with a shelter for women and their children who were leaving abusive relationships.
Following that experience she attended graduate school and received her Masters of Divinity from Boston University in 1999. After graduation, she served three Methodist churches in West Virginia over the next two years before she took some time off from formal ministry to tend to her young son’s health issues. She later served an ELCA congregation for three years in western Racine County.
She is married to Matthew Templeton and has three children: Jack, Caleb, and Maggie. The Emert-Templeton family have been members of Summerfield United Methodist Church for several years, where she is Pastor of the 160 year old congregation. Her family has been a significant influence to the church and its revival.
